Beastie Boys were legit as fuck. Dudes with a fresh take on the world, living and loving whatever the hell they were doing, and doing it like no one else before them, even when they were completely ripping people off (sup RUN DMC). The late 80s & early 90s in hip hop were a serious place to be, and made a fuckload more exciting due to their involvement, starting (their hip hop career, i'm not really counting their Punk era, even though Egg Raid & Cookiepuss are pretty mega) by laughing at the ridiculous nature of hip hop whilst still obviously loving the genre completely all the while trying to hold a mirror up to the moronic side of american party culture, then having that mirror swallow them whole. That could have killed lesser men, and I have always been in awe of how they just walked out of that into Pauls Boutique, I mean, they didn't have much choice as men of taste, but much to the critics dispair at the time, they dropped a hotbed of modern hip hop with the help of the Dust Brothers, which confused the shit out of most, myself included, but man how I loved that record once it settled in after a day or so. But i'm not going to discount their 'ill' days, the Beasties were the greatest party band of all time, even if they did get lost in it. Just teenagers with a budget gettin' loose as fuck with their buddies. Imagine having fame on your back when you were first starting to really party? Fuck that.
So then they walk into Check Your Head, cementing the fact that these motherfuckers were basically immortal for a good stretch of time. Anyway, for those of you who don't know too much of the early Beasties mayhem, here's my Beasties tribute. Kick back, crack a bud & smoke a bag of dust and get with it!
I'll try to keep this shit chronological.
1985:This interview for what looks like a public access channel for their 'Shes On It' single starts with a stallionic Rick Rubin flicking his hair to their left. This is pretty loose, but it's a good window into their first tastes of fame, and how young they were when it hit.
1987: Two years later, and the boys have gotten a bit more savvy with their interviewing skills. The interviewer is a complete idiot, but knows their secret love of... arm wrestling?
This is a clip from 1987 as well, from their Licenced To Ill VHS to be exact. You know all those press shots and film clips of the Beasties partying? This is the reality. I actually think this is somewhat staged, but man, it's pretty rivetting either way... Heads up for the honey drop, MCA coppin' a cheeky fingerpop and Adrock getting a final brewski sip in.

1989: So Licenced to Ill has done it's dash, the world thinks the Beasties are the most hella party jocks of all time 1989 interview just before Pauls Boutique drops, MCA ain't no Shrimp toast, but Adrock likes shrimp toast.
You know what? In my treks for the best beasties footage, I found a copy of an MTV Bio done in 1998, which is fucking amazing and it displays two things. 1. Beasties ruled and 2. MTV was actually a good station once. It covers the entire important part of their career, has amazing OG footage that i've never seen and interviews with legends like Chuck D & DMC. Ten parts, lets do this!
If I ever make a song as bumpin' as Shake Your Rump, i'll die a happy man... Oh well. On the outro tip, have a little bit of Check era Beasties ripping balls doing 'Live At PJs' on Letterman
